AUDITIONS

See you next season!   Monday, March 4, 2013, at Oak Hill High School*. Auditions for new Chorus students will be at 5:30 pm, with Chorus and Beginner Chorus rehearsal to follow at 5:45; auditions for new Symphony students will be at 6:00, with Symphony rehearsal to follow at 7:00. Auditions will continue on the following two Mondays.

Regular Monday rehearsals for Chorus and Beginnner Chorus are at 5:45-7:00 pm and for Symphony at 7:00-8:30 pm.

**Directions to Oak Hill High School:

From the South (Beckley) on Route 19, take the Oyler Exit, turn left, cross over the highway and stay to the right until you get to Oak Hill High School.

From the North (Summersville) on Route 19, take the Oyler Exit, turn right, and stay to the right until you get to Oak Hill High School.

Symphony auditions will consist of:

  1. Scales or rudiments listed on your audition sheet

  2. Music excerpts printed on your audition sheet (practice these!)

  3. Sightreading

 

ENSEMBLES

The New River Youth Symphony is for intermediate and advanced young musicians, ages 8 to 24. Chamber groups include the Woodwind Quintet, the Brass Quintet, and the String Quartet.

The New River Youth Chorus is for intermediate and advanced vocalists, ages 8-24, as well as a Beginner Chorus, ages 5-7.

Rehearsals

The New River Youth Symphony and Chorus meets for weekly rehearsals during the three seasons, fall, spring, and summer, with a break during the winter months when harsh weather often makes for hazardous travel on the roads. During the school year, rehearsals are held on Monday nights at Oak Hill High School. In the summer, rehearsals are at a local church.

Students are encouraged to join NRYSC for the entire year, so that their musicianship can grow and students can better contribute to the ensembles. Season breaks are entry points for new members to join. Concerts are the culmination of each season.

Tuition

Each season, the tuition is due three weeks after the season begins.

Symphony
  • $30 (1st child)
  • $20 (2nd child)
  • $20 (3rd child)
  • Free for 4th child in the family
Chorus
  • $20 (1st child)
  • $15 (2nd child
  • $15 (3rd child)
  • Free for 4th child in the family

Beginner Chorus

  • $10 (each child)

* In the spring and summer seasons, all new Symphony & Chorus students will need to pay $20 for a NRYSC uniform polo shirt to wear for concert performances.

Scholarships

Limited money is available for tuition scholarships for needy students. If a student would like to apply for a tuition scholarship, he/she may contact Agnes Casto, 574-3567.
