Our President

Esther Morey has been the President of NRYSC since its inception in June 2006. In September 2008, Mrs. Morey asked to step down from that position due to health issues. Our Bylaws provide the Executive Board with the responsibility of appointing a replacement to fulfill the responsibilities of that office, until the spring nominations and election of new officers. With that in mind, the Board appointed Kathy Kiser to the position of President and approved that appointment at a September 22, 2008, Executive Board meeting.

Meet Kathy Kiser, NRYSC President

Many with NRYSC know Kathy Kiser already. Kathy and her daughter Perri, who plays first chair in the second-violin section, have been a part of NRYSC since its inception in 2006. Kathy has helped with fundraisers, the picnic, and ice-cream socials. Kathy is often in the “Green Room” watching over our students as they prepare to step onto the stage before a concert. She has a discerning ear and great organizational skills. We are looking forward to tapping into her skills as a leader and organizer.

Our Treasurer

Ann Ramsey accepted the Treasurer’s position last spring during NRYSC’s nominations and election of officers. In September 2008, Mrs. Ramsey asked to step down from that position due to health issues. Again, our Bylaws provide the Executive Board with the responsibility of appointing a replacement to fulfill the responsibilities of the that office, until the spring nominations and election of new officers. With that in mind, the Executive Board appointed Agnes L. Casto to the position of Treasurer.

Meet Agnes Casto, NRYSC Treasurer

Mrs. Casto became NRYSC’s Treasurer in 2006, and last spring she asked to be released from those responsibilities in order to pursue fundraising opportunities. Since that time, she has been serving NRYSC in the position of General Manger. At the request of the Executive Board, she again accepted the Treasurer’s responsibilities until the spring nominations and elections.

Remaining Officers

Kathy Bailey, our Secretary, is still on the job, along with Betsy Cole, Vice President. They are happily fulfilling the duties for which they were elected.

NRYSC and Borders Bridge Day Fundraiser

This upcoming Bridge Day event on October 18 is providing NRYSC with a really great fundraising opportunity. Borders Bookstore is partnering with NRYSC and giving us 10% of their Bridge Day sales. Our only obligation is to provide to helpers on Bridge Day to assist the Borders employees. If you are available to help on Bridge Day, please let Agnes Casto know.

Please make every effort to get the word out to friends and family members to stop at the Borders booth (#45) on the Bridge and take a look at the books for sale. Remember, 10% of all sales go to NRYSC.

Historic Fayette Theatre Concert Date Changed

The concert scheduled on Thursday, December 11, has been moved to Friday, December 12. We were unable to resolve scheduling conflicts with our students’ Christmas band concerts obligations. Moving NRYSC’s concert to the following day seemed the best solution.

Tamarack Concert Date

The concert scheduled to take place at Tamarack on Saturday, December 6, will involve the Chorus and several Symphony chamber ensembles. The Tamarack stage is not large enough to accommodate the entire Symphony. Mr. Bailey will announce the chamber ensembles soon.

Student Musician Cards

Each fall the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra provides Student Musician Cards to NRYSC students to use throughout the WVSO concert season. These cards provide free admission to our students for all of the Symphony Series (Friday and Saturday evening) and Family Discovery Series (Saturday morning) concerts at the Clay Center. Also included are the Montclaire String Quartet concerts, which are performed at venues in the Charleston, WV, area.

Student Musician Cards were sent home with students a few weeks ago. The concerts and dates are listed on the top half of the card, and the card itself is at the bottom. Your student simply needs to present this card at the Clay Center box office prior to the concert, and he/she will be issued a ticket.

Parents, please check with your NRYSC student to make sure he or she has a Student Musician Card. If not, then please notify Agnes Casto or Kathy Bailey, so we can remedy the situation.

NRYSC parents can purchase tickets for individual concerts or season tickets from the WVSO by calling 304-561-3570, or you can download a subscription order form from www.wvsymphony.org/tickets and submit it by mail, fax, or in person. If you are a teacher or homeschooling parent, ask for the teacher’s 50%-off discount on season-ticket packages.

If you are attending one of the concerts and have room in your vehicle for another NRYSC student to ride with you, please let me know. We often have students who would very much like to attend a WVSO concert but need a ride.

If you have purchased season tickets and find that you will not be able to attend one of the concerts, again, please let me know. We are often able to pass on your ticket to a parent who would like to take students to attend the concert.

The WVSO concerts have truly inspired students who have attended them. Please consider making a family commitment of attending at least one of these concerts with your NRYSC students.

Harry Potter Family Discovery Series Concert Volunteers Needed

On Saturday, October 18, the Harry Potter Family Discovery Series Concert will take place during the early afternoon. Prior to the concert, the Clay Center Lobby is full of interesting booths and stations that coordinate with the concert itself. The Clay Center has asked NRYSC for volunteers to help with an instrument petting zoo prior to the concert. If a parent would like to attend the concert, only an hour of volunteer work alongside your NRYSC student will provide you with a free ticket to the concert. Your NRYSC student’s Student Musician Card already provides him or her with admission. If your family is interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please contact Agnes Casto as soon as possible.

Tuition Due on October 6

A few students have not yet paid their tuition. Please give your payment to Agnes Casto as soon as possible. Thank you!
