December 10, 2008
Just a few more days before our last concert of the 2008 season. Mr. Bailey and Mrs. Arnold have both set before your children challenging music which has required a commitment to practice and rehearsal attendance. Monday's rehearsal tells us that they are ready.Prompt arrival to the warmup rehearsal is important. Each student has a News of Note, dated December 1, with all of the information regarding arrival times, concert dress, directions to concert hall, etc. It should be in their music folders.
The town of Fayetteville will be having other activities in town. Our concert culminates their town Christmas celebration. As symphony members are arriving at 4:45 p.m., the town will be poised for the parade. Parking will be at a premium. Be sure and come into town via the Appalachian Drive Exit and Route 16 in order to avoid the parade route.
If you have a student in the parade (Fayetteville High School,) Kathy Bailey will be at the theatre by 4:15 p.m. Parents can drop off your change of clothes. FHS students, immediately after the parade, please get to the theatre, in uniform, and finish the symphony rehearsal. There will be time for you to change afterwards.
The Fayetteville United Methodist Church is having a Chili Feed in town. They tell me there will be a pot of vegetarian chili in addition to meat chili. The cost is a donation, and they would enjoy having you bring your family to eat while you are waiting in town. There are restaurants in town as well, so hopefully you won't have to get back into your vehicles if you are looking for a place to have dinner.
Look for me (Agnes Casto) at the door of the theatre with complimentary tickets (two per family). The theatre does require a $5.00 per person admission fee; children under 7 are free. The fee is divided, and NRYSC receives half of the proceeds.
Things to Remember:
Symphony students, bring your music stands!
Chorus students, make sure your parents save you a seat!
We will need parents to help at the door handing out programs, and Kathy Bailey can always use parents to volunteer as stage hands, helping to set up chairs and stands between performances.
We are expecting a big crowd. It will be a wonderful way to spend the evening and a satisfying finish to 2008.
